Gray cast with spheroidal graphite
Gray cast with spheroidal graphite combines the advantages of cast iron and gray cast with lamellar graphite. In gray cast with spheroidal graphite the graphite extracts itself in the shape of spheroids and therefore the tensile strength and tenacity are increased, because this graphite form has a smaller incising affect in the metal matrix. It is also called nodular cast or ductile cast. We manufacture a wide quality range of casts with which we provide a rich offer between the tensile strength and elongations of the material. The advantages are low costs compared to steel, good castability, ductility, machinability and a 10% lower density compared to steel.

The properties of gray cast with spheroidal graphite may change due to alloying and/or heat treating. Recently the ADI cast has been developed, characterized by extra hardness and wear resistance by which it keeps its ductility. It is manufactured so that the gray cast with spheroidal graphite is submitted to isothermal heat treating. It requires strict control of the chemical components and alloying with Mo, Ni and Cu. The ADI cast is used for the most demanding machine components and is substituting cast and wrought iron
